Make them listen. Ch. 1
Here is the SECRET to unlocking a better, more confident speaker within yourself!
AN EXCERPT:
"What's at stake? What's happening? What are you doing? Ultimately it's a transference of knowledge from one to many. From your mouth to their ears. Your goal in every performance situation should be focused on making change in your audience.
- The Actor - Move the story by conveying the absolute truth of the imaginary moment. Make the audience believe their situation and reaction to it.
- The Lawyer - Convince the jury beyond a reasonable doubt of their side of the argument. It's more than just facts. Often times it's painting a picture for those facts to exist in context.
- The Executive - From CEOs to regional managers, corporate presentations are a constant part of the business. Any business. And although it might be the least exciting thing about the job, make it matter and you'll make yourself matter.
The list goes on. Sometimes the presentation is to an audience of one. Asking for a raise. Proposing. Breaking up a relationship. A rising conflict or its resolution. In every communication there is information and purpose. Our goal is to tap into the purpose and let it drive the speaker so that the listener knows not only the message, but understands how the speaker feels. That is the key to being heard and understood."
